Let’s keep on planting trees!

In the heart of the Piura region in northern Peru, this reforestation project aims to plant 500,000 trees to restore degraded soils and fight against desertification. The planting of forests will limit erosion and provide an additional source of income for the region’s inhabitants.
Launch date: 2019
Species planted:  Cedar cashew, big-leaved mahogany, Andean alder, Humboldt willow, Scots walnut, silver pine, eucalyptus saligna, romerillo
Objectives: restoring the region’s degraded soils and combating desertification through tree planting
Associated partner: Progreso
https://www.reforestaction.com/en/reforestation-peru-piura

Objectives of this project: Maintain and expand the habitat of the rainforest to preserve biodiversity. Reforest the land where trees have been cut to maintain the topsoil and prevent erosion. Contribute to the safeguarding the local water source and mitigating the effects of climate change by storing carbon and purifying the air. Educate people to understand how conservation environmental sustainability increases the availability of forest products and helps reduce the dependence behavior towards the Magamba natural reserve for resources forest.

On board the Harmony of the Seas

Micah bar stools, designed by Michael Sean Stolworthy
Futuristic bar stools on board the Oasis Harmony of the Seas, largest cruise ship ever built

The project started by love at first sight among the designers at Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines, eagerly seeking a mecha/droid-like set of stools as a finishing touch for a bar on board the Oasis Harmony of the Seas, the largest cruise ship ever built in history, set to come out of the French St. Nazaire shipyard STX.

Designed by Las Vegas based Michael Sean Stolworthy, the Micah stool was quickly considered as being THE absolute design piece required for their unique venue, the futurist Bionic Bar bound to be the first true robotic bar in the world, assembling cocktails with robotic arms just like in a car assembly line.

The sculptural, skeleton-like Micah stool is a complex form, and the production of the required pieces at a custom height in record time was a great challenge. Due to time constraints and shear geometrical complexity, it was quickly decided to cast Micah in aluminum making use of a leading-edge technology, i.e. 3d printing of sand molds to cast the stools in one solid piece. The Micah stool project is among the first to use this technology for design furniture, allowing the resulting pieces to be as beautiful and uncompromising as they were originally conceived.

After having been inspired by couture fashion shows and the melting pot culture of big cities, Jean Paul Gaultier now lets us discover his visions of nature – alternative, inverted, oxidized but extremely pure.

For this new fabric collection edited by Lelièvre and called Nature et Découverte, Jean Paul Gaultier imagined Oxydation (3465), a suedine of very delicate soft touch which contrasts with the roughness of the rusted metal aspect.

This soft all-purpose faux suede is used in decoration and accessories by Jean Paul Gaultier.

The lounge chairs spelling out JPG of the collection Typographia from TABISSO set the stage for this new textile designed by Jean Paul Gaultier for Lelièvre.
